Burning Desire

The fire that warms, it can also burn,
Direction of flames, they can quickly turn,
Their flickering dance, set out to entice,
Mesmorizingly bright, hiding its vice,
A sense of comfort, you’re caught unawares,
Seduced by a force, that beckons and dares,
You hold out your hand, stretch out your finger,
You enjoy the glow, letting it linger,
Hypnotized by light, as if time did stop,
Senses, defences, they plummet, they drop,
A fleeting pleasure, planned to soothe your brain,
Instantly sparks, an affliction of pain,
Mercilessly it smothers, chokes and destroys,
Why do we play with what treats us like toys?
Engulfed in the flames, you reach out your hand,
Shocked and confused, you cannot understand,
How the flames are spreading so wild and fast,
Now realising, they’re fuelled by your past,
What was your careless flicking of a match,
Impacted like a bomb, thrown down my hatch.
Pulled out from the hellish, punishing flame,
Your first use of air, is focused on blame,
Damning the hand, that helped you to survive,
From the pit where you led me, planned deprive,
Wounded, weaker, you look up to the skies,
I cannot believe you feel such surprise,
When I realise, the truth you believed,
Was born from your lies, your own mind deceived,
“The fire I started, it’s all your fault!
Can’t you see I’m burning, trapped in this vault!
Why didn’t you stop it?! How can this be?!
Your mental and cold! Why won’t you love me?!”,
Clever and devious, deliberate plan,
Deceived, yes I followed this charming man,
Now I'm framed for his crime, that came from love,
Erasing our truth, with one evil shove,
Projecting his evils straight onto me,
I look like the bad-guy, he fills with glee,
Painting and crafting, a false persona,
Oh such a far cry, from fair Verona,
Fear not, Evil’s plan, it will backfire,
Climb out his pit, to a life much higher,
Though it takes much spirit, courage and nerve,
Reach for the love and respect you deserve.

Hi Melissa,Â
Some real thoughtful verse construction. I enjoyed the poem even though the topic was heartfelt and no doubt painful for the author. Nice work, Louis x
