Fulfillment

Fulfillment

Never could I be criticised for lack of trying.

To realise ambitions I was constantly striving.

Focused on making the most of opportunity,

I recognised the gains from every possibility  !

Time completely taken up by a work ethic,

My lifestyle could only be described as hectic !

As many I was immersed in corporate culture,

Always looking to where I would be in future,

Aspiring to make all the dreams come true,

Never accepting any way but the one I knew !

..............................................................

Then, after my toll, I questioned what mattered,

Never expecting so much in me to be altered !

Fatigued and unfulfilled by all that sold to me,

I searched for more, embarking on a fresh journey !

Perhaps ageing or loss created this new wisdom,

As if by magic, different priorities came into vision.

I committed myself to helping those less fortunate,

Finding real reward in alleviating suffering and hurt.

I discovered a wealth of which there is no greater,

Driven to make this world for others, so much better.

As a blue collar man Richard this resonates with me so strongly. I work out of pure obligation to provide for my family and along the way you do your best to move up and do better but somewhere along that way you lose a part of yourself and realize your being drained by time and energy taken when it should be given to those you love and to be yourself in doing. Maybe when I reach your enlightened status I can understand more. For now Im a slave to my undesired trade. Good write Richard, peace.

It is difficult when companies are only concerned with utilising your skills and labour to improve their bottom line and working you to the bone but we must all find some time to support, comfort and help each other for there lies the real wealth which enriches your soul, and keeps society functioning and worth being a part of.

Thanks for taking the time to read my poem and comment on it !

All the best to you.  :)

Hello Richard...

I can so relate to this...

I worked for a corporation and I would be constantly called on my day off and I would have to be in another state on the spot...

Had to cancel plans with my kids because there was noone else that could cover...

Promised me a paid vacation...

Not only did I not receive it...

They cut my hours back because the season got slow and they hired more people...

From going from 70 hours or more a week to 24 hours a week if I was lucky...

It was very difficult and they didn't care...

Eventually,  they ended up going out of business...

A friend works for corporate now and she is always beyond stressed...

She still has to work 2 jobs which is insane...

Great topic!

Thank you for sharing...

Hugs and Smiles!

It is the same the world over with exploitation being commonplace. Later in life you come to realise how you were used to benefit corporations and boost their profits at the expense of your own fulfilment. You work at their whim to collect material wealth which never compares to what you get out of helping others overcome lifes challenges. If we share the load of this journey as a caring community which puts well being of all first everyone benefits and all get the most out of existence.None of us take any possessions with us when we leave this mortal coil, and to enrich your soul is to prepare yourself for what follows this world.

Love and hugs !!!  x

Hi Richard,

Been there, done that, too. Wasting away in the corporate world, so far removed from the real one.  Then the transition to reality and self awareness.  Very nicely written.

Peace and Love,
