Calories

Crumpled labels sorted in the drawer
Wrinkled where fingers grabbed
And clenched with burning hatred
310
250
180
Until her tired eyes memorise the numbers
Her chubby fingers stroke down the edge of the paper
And place it back in the drawer at the top
mayonnaise 100
She sets her eyes on the black digits
Printed like a death sentence
And runs to the bathroom
To pray to her shrine and beg for forgiveness
To plead her case over the porcelain
And wish for beauty
Everyday
Until her fingers are long bones
Like Halloween skeleton toys
But she still is not happy
And so she prays
