Poem -

Cancer, do you still hear me?

Cancer, do you still hear me?

Cancer, do you still hear me?
This is what I have to say.
Cancer you can kiss off!
Again, you did not win today…

It was flesh you needed to live in,
And now you’re back in hell
Cuz God came and took her,
And left you, once again, an empty shell.

Her body may no longer breathe
Her heart may no longer beat
But without those things of life,
You had nothing left to eat.

And now she gets to live above,
She’s laughing down at you,
She's smiling at your pretend win,
And what she now, finally gets to do.

She has her tiller running proud,
Her fairy garden's in to stay.
She’s sewing seeds and smiling wide,
Because, Cancer, you did not win today.

You tried to steal her husband,
But she smiled brightly at the sky,
Because she knew she’d see him soon one day
And right now, she is finally saying hi.

She’s back in his arms once more,
Breathing in his scent,
Feeling like she's finally home,
Just like she’d always dreamt.

The love she gets to feel right now,
You can never take away.
She left you with a lesson,
That God is always here to stay.

So, Cancer, do you still hear me?
That’s all I had to say.
Cancer you can kiss off!
Again, you did not win today…

I love you, Julie.  More than you will ever know.

Yes it is.  I wrote the first poem, Cancer Do You Hear Me, when my father in law passed on 4/18/14.  Then I wrote this version on 4/12/21, the night my mother in law joined him.  Cancer is evil for sure.

It's unfortunate for me that I have only just now found your poetry. You write with such feeling. I love this one! Please excuse my language, but f**k cancer. The SOB took my father and is trying to take me; but I ain't going. It's got a lot more hard charging to do. God bless you.
