CARDBOARD CHRISTMAS

CARDBOARD CHRISTMAS

A sad and lonely homeless man
Sits by his pal; who begs: HE can
Companion with a bark and yelp
When his weary friend may need some help

Been on the streets two years or more
Sleeping in a cold shop door
Snuggling in his cardboard home
These walls will stop his restless roam

Drink’s a comfort through the night
The warmth of whiskey sheds some light
His pal drinks drops of what is left
Not much to spare; this man’s bereft

Memories of a guy so proud
He now stands out within a crowd
But not for what he did;Ā or should
A stinking mess,Ā adorned in mud

A life gone by; his memories charred
Marriage; business; family marred
As all his dreams went up in smoke
On unrelenting debts he choked

He lost his home; his business; wife
Kds no longer in his life
The drink to which now is a friend
Is what he soon came to depend

And now from such respect and hope
He lives a life of crack and dope
To pass the time; to get him through
Odd coins now thrown to get a brew

A sad and lonely homeless man
Sits by his pal; who begs: HE can
No life should ever ā€˜live’ this way
A Cardboard Christmas holiday
