Poem -

Caught.

I’m undressing your mind

Thread by thread

I smell the thoughts in your head.

Caught on something from your memories.

The three of us

You and I

The silver of the moon

With fingers intertwined.

Paint me in dust

Let me fade away.

Stars remain, they hide in your breath.

Whispering mints of wishing to forget.

I want to untangle your knots

The ones complicating your brain, polluting your veins.

I want to feel the same way

We did back then.

Please. Let. Me. In.

Chalk in your lungs

Clay in your breath

I’ve sculpted you and now

My hands are empty. I have nothing left.

Tight. Tighter. Tight.

Wires catch at my flesh

They pull and tug and tug and pull

Snagging at my skin like blood smeared wool.

I forgot to think of you last night,

As I lay in a bed twice the size.

I ask myself,

What does it take to feel alive?

What would make it enough?

Coughing up stardust?

Blood running gold?

Let me taste it.

Please. Let. Me. In.

Splinter my soul,

In smithereens we will smile.

Fragment’s of what’s left,

Linger. Like stains on your chest.

Fingerprints dipped in ink.

Tell me what to think.

Patches of light patching the dark.

I press my thumb against your heart.

I tattoo my name across your brain.

A faint smudge hiding behind your eyes, when you close them at night,

Falling asleep,

Let me haunt your dreams.

Paint me in dust. Let me fade away

Into the dirt of yesterday.

Scattered among the stars.

We couldn’t be further apart.

Please. Let. Me. In.
