Chasing rainbow's gold

Chasing rainbow's gold

When I was just a young boy
My mother once had told
At the end of every rainbow
There lies a pot of gold

We lived out in the country
So my range to roam was more than most
I'd set off to exploring
In the summer
And the winters' cold

A Sunday morning rising
The horizon showed a shining
Illuminating forest trees
A couple hours' walk from me

A rainbow was surrounding
Golden light from where it landed
That must be the reflection
Of the pot of gold in mention

We never had much money
Just my mum, me and my brother
My mum would work 3 jobs
I understood and
Wished to help her

I went to get a backpack
And the biggest I could find
My brothers would be perfect
And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind
Especially...
When he can see
The joy in mummy's eyes
When I empty out its contents
And reveal the gold surprise

So off I go
With nothing
But an oversized and empty bag
The coat I'm always wearing
And my black and yellow bobble hat

Over fields
Through the hedges
Squeezing underneath wire fences
I'm determined not to stop
Until I come across that pot

I feel heightened with excitement
Every time I think I'm nearing
I'm pretty sure I'll see it soon
Just need to reach that clearing

Then I'm in the forest
Where the trees I saw were lit
Will the gold be obvious?
Or will I have to search for it?

There's no way that it's buried
It's reflection wouldn't shine
Either way I'm sure
I will find out
All in good time

I'm almost there
The heaviness
Is lifted from my feet
The gold light in the forest
Seems to crackle with an energy

My hairs stand up on end
And my heart begins to pound
This has got to be the place
Our treasure will be found

I search
But nothings here...
Maybe someone else has beaten me?
It's ok
There are lot's a year
Next time
I'll be ready
