Cheap Summer Vibes

My pebbled balcony is a beach

The blue sky is a sea

Clouds are waves crashing

Birds are rays swimming upside down

The breeze is the same

The light that purifies my soul

The same

The presence of God the same

I may not be laying upon this towel

As it drips from the clothes line

But I can still escape to another place

And the reggae on my cellphone helps

As I peer across under a palm tree

To my neighbour's island taro plantation

Framed by other washing on other lines

Bliss can fall from the heavens

Even here

Even now

Amongst the otherwise mundane

All it takes is sunshine

And a breath of fresh air

I love how the power of imagination can flip it like that. Philisophically it reminds me of Jacques Derrida's "surplus" of the author.ย
