Childhood Birthday Dreams

Childhood Birthday Dreams

Childhood's birthday dreams
were clad in pink, blue and
white icing. It was
like angels descending from
on high, when presents
were opened from elegant
wrappers; when we blew
out brightly- lit candles on
fine cakes in semi-
darkness of warm kitchens,
then made a wish.
Purple balloons above seemed
to conjure up rich
images of royalty.
To curious eyes,
it was a most enthralling
ceremony. To
live beside one's dreaming is
a wonderful thing.
Yet age corrodes innocence.
Henceforth, we tend to
cling to nostalgia's fragments.
