Choked

This morning I tasted defeats bitter pill,

a taste that sat ill in my mouth.

I've trained for months, left my job at the till

I hit the mat, and it all went south.

I won't describe the fight itself.

my friends that would bore you for sure

it ended not in a cry of pain

but a steady need for air.
