In The City...

Hours pass as traffic, days tumble to the timing of heartbeats
People pass you by and they hardly notice that any ones there, breathing,
Believing in themselves and all the distractions of daily routines and opportunities
Driving them on to the heartbeat and the pulse of the pushing tide of cars and bars
And stop lights gone green then red, in the alley the EMT'S picking up the dead
And sobbing souls being dragged around in ambulances and trains that rumble
Underground and above all the downtown flowing like a nervous system tumbling
Out of time as the taxi turns on the meter charging you outrageous rates and bumping
Its way through 4 litre engines that are honking and making their way to meetings
And marvelous museums that slow down the pace of what's happening out on the street
As we meet a new friend who's just pulling into the garage near the restaurant where
we're all supposed to meet to eat and drink our way home to the place where we sleep
Through the night as we dream of the office where we rush in the morning to the coffee
Machine where we lean for a break from the day that awaits.........just to wake up.......and rush off......to repeat......it over .......again.......

Gosh! that`s got me worn out just reading it!! I have never lived in a city before so I probably wouldn`t feel very comfy in one and certainly never seen one as big as the ones in the USA, they are terrifying, just the noise must take some getting used to!! This piece is a certainty on my fav list, it`s beautifully written, so much so that it takes your breath away just reading it. You have taken this little old English girl on a very interesting ride with your words. Well done sweety. Love G xx
Thanks so much Georgie, I had a feeling you would get a little taste from that piece........I was really happy with it.......and I'm glad that it didn't just slip through...........smiles,.......sweet poetess........tony xx
