Clark Hulings--The American Rembrandt
In the spring of nineteen seventy nine, while in sunny Scottsdale A;
I went downtown to do some business, a little work to mix with play!
I visited many fine art galleries, for Art Dealing is my trade;
And I had a lot of cash on me, for much money had I recently made!
Â
On the wall of one establishment, hung a work that took my breath away;
Though I dealt in older paintings, once in awhile I’d invest in one of today’s!
The scene depicted was from the Wild West, people, horses, and a town;
The brush strokes were those of genius, heavy impasto all around!
Â
I was not familiar with the artist, but thought him “A Rembrandt of Our Time”;
If it’s priced at under eight thousand said I, I’m going to make it mine!
I asked the woman at the front desk, how much I’d have to pay;
She said “Give me just one moment sir”, then the gallery owner came my way!
Â
He said “It’s a major work by the great artist Clark Hulings”, and that he had purchased it recently;
He said he paid three hundred fifty thousand for it, and for four hundred, he’d let it go to me!
I think I almost fainted, I apologized and said “Sorry, it’s way out of my reach”;
But from that day on, I have revered Mister Clark Hulings, and of his greatness I have preached!

Hello Larry, man this is beautiful... Love how you told your story, you painted it well into my readers eye, a very good rapport you built here. Clark Huling, a American Master, yes yes, you are quite correct sir, my favorite of his thus far is named "Flower Burro", from 1980. Not only do I favor your story, immenssly, but I also treasure your location an year here. Though I was born here in Tucson, where I currently live also, but my family moved to Mesa, where I was raised when I was 2 years old, in 1979, moving back here to Tucson in October of 1994, just 16, on the edge of 17, come December 1st. To be real and honest with you, I love Clark Huling's work so much, his realism style and skill, that I would not hesitate for one moment to include Clark Huling in the same breathe as Edward Hopper, or even Velasquez's work, such as Las Meninas, which is also a favorite painting of mine... Take good care man:
Hi tempemendivil,
Wow!  The wonders of Cosmo.  To find someone who is familiar with the brilliant work of Clark Hulings, is amazing to me.  As you can see, I have posted 600 poems on Cosmo, and I must say, being an Art Dealer, on my ones that I've written on that subject, never have I felt such a connection.  I hope you realize that the story that I told is absolutely true, no embellishment at all.  The Dealer I make reference to, whom you might have heard of, is James Fowler, who had this gallery in Scottsdale, but also resided in Lookout Mountain, TN.  We share an unbelievable common bond, and I feel like I have made a forever friend. I am going to read some of your works, which I am sure, as we share such passion, will be remarkable.  This has been a glorious day for me on Cosmo, one of many more I know we will share together.
Take care my dear artistic friend.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
P.S. Â Another common bond, long before we found one another, my wife attended U of A.
Hello Larry, man that is awesome, UofA, Such a small world indeed, I never found another artist who has any connections to here, love it man... the works I currently have on here are more Gothic than anything, though I do have some writes I have not shown, but are just sitting around that are more artistic in nature, than doom and gloom... I can easily blame this Gothic love on Edger Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and every Friday and Saturday night growing up, watching Creature Features on TV, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, Dracula, as well as anything I could fin don King Arthur, my favorite character... I should mail you some of my works I have not shared on here. Take good care my friend: Ed
Larry, my dear friend...
To my shame, I was unfamiliar with Hulings' work till I read your poem and then looked him up online. All I'll say is...
his photographic
attention to detail  is
what makes him master
your friend & fan,
J ;)
My Dear Friend Jason,
Why would you ever be ashamed, when I, as an Art Dealer in 1979, did not know who he was either. The important thing, is to recognize his genius, as we do to so many others that have left their footprints in history. Â Oh my gosh, I am going to write a poem titled just that, "Footprints In History". Somehow, your words always seem to inspire me. Â By the way, when can we on Cosmo expect your next masterpiece? Â As for now, as you and I always do, I shall respond to your Haiku with one of my own.
.
He paints with such strength
Bold strokes of pure genius
Maestro of our time
.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
