Cold English Gentleman

Cold English Gentleman

A cold English gentleman skippered his ship
And sailed her away a stiff upper lip,
Willing the ocean to carry him far
From the harbour he'd left not a moment before.

But after a while he could barely disguise
That the urge to turn back had brought tears to his eyes.
Just why he persisted to plough on ahead
Was partly through duty and partly through dread.

And back on the harbour, the woman he loved
Watched him sail out of sight 'neath the stars up above.
She cried him an ocean and then she cried more,
She had lost him forever, of that she was sure.
But as she stood wailing the wind and the sea
Said "maybe we'll we carry him right back to thee".

I loved this, ran so smoothly up until the ending lines, something just didn't sound right
