This Time

This Time

This time you seemed so fragile my love.
Like a tiny bird in my arms.
Your eyes sad, your face somehow thinner
I can only imagine your pain.

Somehow this was the day too far
When lack of sleep and lack of chance
Finally caught up with us.
And pulled apart our lovers dance

I left you in the snow, I had to go,
But you needed me too, I know
In another life I would cradle you every day
And sing you lullabies of pirates and tigers

But instead I left you as I crossed the road
A retreating figure in the snow
I have loved you more than anyone
And now I've let you go.
