Cold sweat

I awoke abruptly,
it took me a few seconds to get my bearings,
I was in bed
and had no recollection of how I got there,
my clothes were neatly folded on the chair,
I usually just throw them into a pile on the floor,
next to the laundry basket
then sort them out in the morning.
I was shivering,
pyjama bottoms were stuck to my legs,
the smell was terrible,
I had broken into a cold sweat,
my bedsheets stank of death,
I do not know what has just happened
but it must have been horrific,
heartbeats thunder through my eardrums,
almost shaking me to the core,
this was certainly no usual situation ,
I was looking for flashbacks
but none would come;
so I used my imagination to work out what had occurred,
it chilled me to the bone,
no wonder I woke in a cold sweat.

Man, that sounds like a horrible experience, Barry!
Some people would be scarred for life after seeing something like you saw.
I think you went about dealing with your experience in the proper way by sharing it through writing, however.
It always helps me.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the comment,I often write my experiences and feelings down as I find it difficult to tell people about them,it's really helped me to release my frustration,I write this type of poem for myself and if I can connect with someone else then that's a bonus, that is the reason why I have joined cosmofunnel
