Coming Home

Salty tears covered my face,
More and more dripping down each moment.Â
I could not bear to leave my friends.Â
Couldn’t tell if we yelled or sang our Hebrew song,
Each of us put our heart and soul into every word;
We were stars, unified like a constellation.Â
My best friend and I hugged our favorite trash can good-bye,
We embraced until forced to separate.Â
On the bus, I cried for forty-five minutes,Â
Drowned myself to sleep,Â
Woke an hour later, Â
Unable to move my face,
For it was hard with dry tears;
And all I did was weep for the next two weeks.
I did not want to go home,Â
But they gave me no choice,Â
Dragged me onto the bus,Â
Drove me to the airport;Â
I had no other option but to board the plane at that point.Â
Greeted by my mother, who smiled like no other,Â
I could not feel any more different than her.Â
My best friend and I hugged our favorite trash can good-bye,
We embraced until forced to separate.Â
On the bus, I cried for forty-five minutes,Â
Drowned myself to sleep,Â
Woke an hour later, Â
Unable to move my face,
For it was hard with dry tears;
And all I did was weep for the next two weeks.
I mourned a lost cause: time,
The most meaningful four weeks of my life.
