Poem -

Concessions

Somehow, we slipped from making music to tuning in,

From writing our story to reading some stranger’s,

From chasing our dreams to fleeing our fears,

From pursuing our loves to nursing our hurts,

From running our fastest to seeking shortcuts,

From striving our hardest to just getting by,

Knowing joy in our sorrow to nothing but sighs,

From gourmet delights to pub, pint and pie,

Gleefully consuming – but unable to cry.

Where did we go wrong?  What stifled our song?

How did fall from grace to just drifting along?

Well, the human condition is rebellious, perverse,

Our excuses feeble, our ignorance most diverse.

Yet there’s One who still loves us, even on late nights,

When we’re bleary-eyed from chasing what mights,

When we’ve reached rock bottom, everything a mess,

He comes down from heaven to rescue and bless.

He offers a fresh start, clean heart and spirit renewed,

He strips away our shame and our fears are subdued,

He’s the best of Masters, the kindest of Friends,

He’s the Lord Jesus Christ and His love never ends.
