Covid 2020

So 2020 was not anyone's year,
For Covid ruined it all.
The world was torn apart,
But still people did stand tall.

Times are already changing,
With loo roll costing more than fuel.
No more late night drinking in the pubs,
No more wannabe gangsters trying to act "cool".

Supermarket shelves emptied,
Pasta, flour and eggs become gold.
A lot of people were selfish,
Which put a strain on our old.

But then we started clapping,
On Thursdays at 8 for our elite.
It brought a nation together,
It brought the nation to its feet.

Our NHS staff became super hero's,
And our keyworkers became the best.
There are children no longer doing exams,
So our scientists are now taking the test.

We have clapped for our beloved,
We have put rainbows everywhere.
We have had to deal with heartache,
And things have not been fair.

But we will one day have a vaccine,
And we will no longer live in fear.
We can return to our lives,
And things will be much more clear.

So let us fight this invisible beast,
Even if some become unfit.
You can bring us to our knees,
But you will never break our spirit.
