Poem -

Creatures

I've known pain
felt it's shadowĀ
in dark alleys and ruined lives
where hope is abandonedĀ
for getting through the day
forgotten by Gods and men
I've felt pain immeasurableĀ
in eyes drained of life

I've sat in their midst laughingĀ
dreamt with them
dared to walk the darknessĀ
hand in handĀ
"let's dare," they said

who was I to save anyone?like them--
I am the child of a lessor GodĀ
brethren of the nightĀ
Night CreaturesĀ
Night Creature
the scurry of the rat
howl of the wolf
glimmering sheen on a fox's pelt
flight of the batĀ
we found them fascinatingĀ
Night Creatures

my pain morphed into rage
eons agoĀ
I sought the pain of othersĀ
those of us even as we sat in packs;
walking alone into the nightĀ
solace absolution release numbingĀ
from wounds that never heal
into the darkĀ
even as we held handsĀ
where questions outweighed answersĀ
we were aloneĀ
shunnedĀ
ugly
magnificentĀ
Night Creatures.
