Creatures of the Night

The stars are so bright
Flickering in the night sky
Rejoicing in the darkness
Crickets they are chirping
A chorus of dogs
They howl at the moon
People are sleeping
In warm comfy beds
But an evil is lurking
Darting in and out of sight
They hide in the shadows
Seeking out their prey
May the gods have mercy?
On their poor suffering victims
For they feed off fear
And have no consequence
An unquenchable thirst
From deep inside stirs
Hope all you can
That you are not taken
They care not of age
Nor race or gender
They will drain you all the same
Of blood and all hope
So lock all your doors
Board up your windows
These creatures of the night
Damned with no souls
