Creatures of the night

Creatures of the night

Creatures of the night

Dusk awakened when all the birds did fly as Venus shone like a diamond in the sky
Midges flew frenzied and fast, a tasty morsel for pipindrel bats that raced past
Eerie sounds at eventide from the noctural creatures that aroused from hide

Majestic Barn owls shrieked and screamed, shadowy silhouettes as the bright moon beamed
Moles, mice, rats and voles scuttled to and fro foraging from holes
All of these creatures coming out at night hidden and rested amidst daylight
Ghostly grey before the darkness
Chilly coldness betwixt the starkness

Cloudless skies amass with stars
Shining like headlamps on motorcars
Twinkling, blinking such a splenderous sight illuminating the pitch black night
People sleep as after dark animals stir keeping snug with coats of fur
Red, rusty sly foxes bark and howl
A hungry scavenger on the prowl

My Dear Jill,

In the late nineteen-eighties, Laura Branigan sang a soul-searching song, one of the lyrics being "I live among the creatures of the night".
Your beautiful poem exemplifies her every word.

All my love,
Larry xxx
