Dad, can you hear me...

If I'm a lost boy, but yet a man, does this mean I don't need help?
You're my hero, it's in your eyes, I still feel it, when you dwell,
I've walked a different path, I'm moving out of reach,
Too late to feel a father's wrath, there's no time to speak.
Dad, can you hear me now?
I hope, I haven't let you down,
To say I love you, is allowed,
I just hope, I've made you proud.
I think I'm a dreamer and a soul searcher, it doesn't put money in the bank,
Playing football on Carley Hill, you gave me a voice, for this I say thanks,
I'm a little bigger now, I know I can't run around like I used to, and feel so free,
Now I have children, you taught me one thing, how a father is supposed to be.
We don't normally speak like this, face to face, and that's ok,
I know that you'll be there, if your son feels too much pain,
I remember the Sunday nights, me and you listening to the beautiful south,
Watching my mam doing the ironing, stories of the future, sitting on the couch.
Dad, can you hear me now?
I hope, I haven't let you down,
To say I love you, is allowed,
I just hope, I've made you proud.
I've not got money, no-one to call honey, but I'm rich with my family,
You have supported me, as best as you can, this is a loving reality,
If I'm thinking this or even believing it, should I be ashamed?
I'm filling up, I don't know why, but I know writing this, I'm being brave.
Dad, can you hear me now?
I hope, I haven't let you down,
To say I love you, is allowed,
I just hope, I've made you proud.
Dad, hear me now,
To say, I love you is allowed...
