Dame Mother’s recompense

As I lay wide awake most of last night listening to noctural creatures hooting in flight
Tawny owls toowitted and toowood
I knew they were very near
echoing through the stillness it sounded so clear
So fedup of fidgeting I finally gave up and made myself a brew in my favourite cup
As I was sipping sleepy-eyed
peeping outside my window trying to hide

Though the hooting had stopped I was overjoyed to see not one but two majestic Tawny owls watching me
We have bird boxes outside our house coz both of us adore Mother Nature me and my spouse
Two wooden little huts are perched within my view but Owls are so clandestine they are oblivious to you

The hooting I had heard earlier was from these two howlers as they followed each other zig-zagging from box to box like a pair of private prowlers
Such an awe-inspiring vision in the middle of the night
Dame Mother’s recompense for my insomnia and a sheer delight
I suffer from lack of sleeping and tho it is a sufferable strife
Perhaps I was an Owl in my former life ?
