Poem -

In The Dark

The monsters are not under our bed,
But rather they are in our heads.
Seeking shelter from the light,
They show and roam at night.
‘It is only a figment of your imagination.’
I repeat to myself in frenetic repetition.
Glowing eyes coming from empty space,
Knowing it’s your soul they want to take.
You can’t even escape them with sleep,
They come a visit you in your dreams.
Praying and begging, ‘Please don’t hurt me.’
Afraid that I’m completely losing my sanity.
Something dark, that I cannot see, is crawling very near,
It brushes my hair from my face tucking it behind my ear.
Saying, ‘Oh darling, don’t you cry,’
‘Soon forever you’ll be all mine.’
