Dark Passenger

Dark Passenger

There is life
Blooming in the cracks where the bricks run ragged
(Roots too deep to see how they grew)

They're well established in the mainframe.
As a reflection in the same vein
I keep catching little flashes of light
..then blindness
Pretty little melodies..
Then silence.

Came unravelled in the downward spiral.
No peace, just quiet

I get a little voice in my head
Saying "there's nothing to believe in"

And I believe it.

Buckled the dark passenger seatbelt
..finally got a secret worth keeping

I thought good things were coming
After such a lengthy wait..
But the only thing that happened
Was that nothing ever changed

So I..

Slipknotted up the little thorny vines
So the life can't bloom
Where the light don't shine

Keep the darkness all that's in focus.
Cut the ties to everything else
So I only have the rope to hang myself.
Rather than blow the whole thing wide open
In the hopes that somethting might help..
Think its best for everybody if I just keep to myself

I steered straight but still swerved into oncoming madness
Started my disappearing act
Little particles of evaporating matter

Be careful how you word your wishes when you ask em

Hit the gas till it redlines..
GUN IT!
Invest in wasted time until the plot lines plummet
Fuck it, Molly BornReady Score
Let it die the same way
Said "Get the fuck outta my way..or get slain"

Rode it till the wheels fell off..
When they did..
Dark passenger took a backseat
Dropped the keys..
Ditched it in a parking lot
Bought a new piece of shit
Took off to paradise

Evrey level of hell,
Thousand year flood water in Colorado

MADE IT OUT IN ONE PEICE

Without shit left but *ME*
..ALL I NEEDED..
IM FREE.. IM FREE.. IM FREE IM FREE IM FREE

I have a sequence of poems that I wrote titled my Dark Passenger. Similar theme too.. I guess great minds think alike

A wonderful mix of concrete, real-world images and surreal hints; all in the dark shadow of that damned passenger.
The moment of true crisis; "...nothing ever changed": is so devastating, perhaps, because it's so recognisable...so simply and baldly stated and so raw.
And the end...the final exhortation of: "IM FREE...IM FREE"...triumphant!! And what a relief to the reader!!!

Bravo!

wow!  this is one hell of a good poem, Molly...you took the reader to some edgy uncomfortable places, poem hits like a shot of whiskey straight up; not for the faint of heart...exceptionally expressive, most of us have a 'dark passenger' or a 'carnal nature', I remember the term from the HBO series 'Dexter' from back in the day, he must've said that a hundred times, you approach this fairly common term with a fresh vibrant intensity, very well done, I like this a whole lot...tribute poet

Wow Molly,

Where have i been lately, (excuse my expression) but this is some real thought out, "raw" ($$!+) here!!!  You went there and beyond, in this piece my friend...." The (mind set), lent to the character, in this write,  appears to be, (fed up and made up),  so let it ride," in this poems, (presented attitude). It appears no matter how straight you are to/in life, it tends to always wonna throw, a (compounded) curve your way, this is a very powerful poem, of a person just simply tired, of doing all she could for (all) and for (all), the right reasons, for to long... (All) except herself. Every "wick" has its end, no matter how long, it's candle burns...Just as Chris, I champion the entire poem...Jim

Thank you so much Jim!! You hit the nail on the head with your analogy of this piece!! So glad you could appreciate it. I feel most of us feel like this at least once in our life.. It's hard to pin this fleeting feeling. Hope putting it into words has brought some comfort to us all!! <3

NOT THE TRUTH

NOT THE TRUTH

Afraid you'll know the truth?

The truth is always out there...

I cracked on the central...

I cracked on the central air-conditioning on Juneteenth 2025...

the first time this summer,
when martyrdom got chucked aside for cold comfort.
