THE DAY THE LIGHT WENT OUT

THE DAY THE LIGHT WENT OUT

I saw it in your eyes

The way you hung your head

How you looked when people talked to you

A longing for your bed

You were such a happy person

A bright and shining star

You were truly gifted

You would undoubtedly go far

But the day the light went out

It was like someone turned a switch

You'd stare at me with hatred

Like I was some demented witch

I was the demon you despised

Saw it deep within your eyes

Sunken in and looking scared

Feeling judged; always compared

The monsters they weren’t in your sleep

They hung around much nearer; deep

Deep within your soul; your mind

Destroying your thinking; on constant rewind

I longed to reach out and help you

"GOD PLEASE!!!"

Your sadness; your torture

I was there on my knees

You hated yourself; your expectation too great

Too much PRESSURE

FRUSTRATION

It was making you hate!!!

You said that you loathed what you'd become

Wanted to be here no more!!

I felt helpless and hopeless; wanted to hold you

As you punched yet another door!

Weeks became months

And it all stayed the same

Until one special day

You heard me speak your name

The light had come on

You had a softness once more

You no longer needed

To punch out a door!

The dark eyes had gone

They were smiling at me

I looked at your face

It was you I could see

I got you back

I'm so happy to say

So I'll never question

Why the light went out that day .....

Cheers Jason!!   Might seem more of a random theme under children's illnesses but mental illness is a hard one to tackle, particularly when it's about kids, but in my experience one that should be discussed!!!   Thanks for reading Jason :)x

You and your teammate or partner may live

under the same skies, but you might not

see the same horizon.

great piece rachel !  i wrote one before for my son who went through this very badly more suicide attempts than i could nearly handle .this brings it back and how much more we should write about it to keep it in peoples minds how hard it is for both child and parent.    tina x

It is such an awful thing to have to live with Tina!!  Mental health is always a hard issue to talk about but when it involves children it carries an even bigger taboo!!  To see a child suffer in this way is heartbreaking! Sadly it is not talked about nearly enough. Thanks for reading Tina :)
