DAYS(AND YEARS) BEFORE

He only has pennies in his dirty old bowl 
Wouldn't pay for a cuppa or a bacon roll
Was exactly the same as the day before
Only this time the pennies are less not more

The holes in his jumper are much bigger today 
Looking skywards he sees the clouds are grey
He hopes it doesn't rain like it did the day before 
Nowhere to shelter he knows that is for sure 

What he would give for a meal and a bed 
Something to eat and to rest his tired head 
He did have these things but many years before
Now he is desperate,alone and really quite poor
