Dear future daughter

Dear future daughter,
You probably won’t like red velvet cake.
You probably wont like my gold stilettos until the age of 7.
You probably won’t idolize Grace Kelly
Or Audrey Hepburn when picking out that outfit for your first date with the guy who your heart will react faster than your head to. The same guy that will shatter your heart
like a bullet to a glass chandelier,
But don’t worry you’ll never have to clean up the mess alone. The same guy that will then have the audacity
to show up two months after the fact
in your inbox at 1am
after you just flunked that big chemistry test saying: I miss you. And guess what?
You probably will believe him.
And guess what?
I won’t.
But you’ll still identify with him as your person,
And he’ll identify you as one of his many persons.
You’ll recognize the happiness you receive from him
On a sunday morning with him 150 miles away.
He’ll recognize the happiness
He receives from you
On a friday night in the dark
Thanks to Mary Jane.
You will create your standards higher because of that same boy You will limit your vulnerability because of that same boy
And you will understand your worth
All because of a boy who never could.
