Death Of A Lady---- Mary Stuart--(bit of history-The last moments)

Death Of A Lady---- Mary Stuart--(bit of history-The last moments)

Mary Queen of Scots

Eventide 7th February 1587

Fotherghay Castle

The beautiful Queen of Scotland lay
In prayer for the saving of her soul
News now proclaimed of her execution in the morn
This cold February day that would end her earthly journey

A small scaffold no more than two stones high
Her executioner knelt in reverence and begged her forgiveness
This act was his the command the Virgin Queen
Seeking for many years the demise of her beautiful cousin

This woman was striking, fire red hair, defiant to all stations
The glint of sparkling assertion, still afire in those lovely eyes

Forgiving the axe man and biding him a strong arm
put an end to all my troubles good man she whispered.

Disrobing her modest Tudor dress she softly exposed her satin
bodice.  and coyly said giving her final blushes.
I have never disrobed before such company before.
Her long noble neck  now revealed, swanlike and admired

The red velvet arm gloves, the wear of a catholic martyr
In the Church of Rome that she refused to abandon
She looked at the block a large oaken circle
The black cushion for her to comfort her knees

She stretched out the delicate gloved arms
as if prostrate.
Her last words were to her God
"Into thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit"

The Axe man’s  blow was clumsy he hit the back of her head
The next swing of the mighty axe cut through her small neck
Lifting her head to show the crowd
Her long red trestles fell to the earth
Revealing the short grey hair of an old woman

The Woman who was the daughter of the sister
Of Henry King of England once powerful and desired
Queen of Scotland .Queen Consort of France
Claimant to the Throne of England was dead

A small dog her constant companion
Ran franticly from its hiding place under her skirts
Refusing to leave her,
He was soaked in the lifeblood of his mistress
Whimpering by her now silent body
He was forcibly removed and washed

Jude!  I love historically based writes.  Well done.  Poor Mary…Queen Elizabeth  than no intention of letter her live so possessive was she of her throne.  Mary never should have try to claim her right to the throne of England!

Wonderful write!

Thanks Valerie

I always liked her

she was a bit flawed

and diamonds look fake with some small flaws

thank you for your kindness as usual

Valerie Beasley...

Yes, she was a bit flawed.  I think Mary's biggest flaw was her naiveté…her power was never as strong as Elizabeth's and playing the "religion" card was a real big mistake!
