Poem -

The Deer

In an ancient forest, quite far away,

With strong oaks, and elms of a lively green,

I found myself one eventful day

On a forgotten path, taking in the scene.

The breeze was faint with a gentle hiss,

and moist was the grass, the dew had kissed.

Early was day, the sun peeking out.

Just over high canopies, out and about.

The trees danced cheerfully, swaying their arms.

They feared no thing, nor had any alarms.

A mystical serenity, the forest did make,

As onward I trod, towards the ancient lake.

The water glistened, as the sun came out.

A perplexing blue, the water shined.

Splashing were fish, the lake did shout.

Red and gold, the colors intertwined.

And then a deer made its way through.

It was might, as it sneaked down.

Behind the ancient lake, in my view.

It made not a peep, nor sound.

Its large antlers, were of nearly 30 points,

as it walked along, shivering my joints.

White as snow, was it's stubby tail.

And amazing stories, this deer did tell.

For there he stood, eight feet tall!

A magnificent beast, a site for all!

His stature was stout, such a marvelous creation.

Might his legs and hoofs, and firm his foundation.

And then he stopped to take a drink,

the water of Earth to God he did thank.

For some time at the lake, he sat to tarry,

wide were my eyes, and my soul was quite merry.

But then my heart, elated and gay,

all of a sudden was discerned yet dismayed

An ominous voice, broke through to say,

"your true nature, shall now be displayed."

My body trembled as the wind got loud,

And darkness in the sky danced cloud to cloud.

The sun was suppressed, and the forest got scary.

Yet still there, that deer did tarry.

And alas my hand, reached down my thighs,

as I drew my weapon, and let out a deep sigh.

I drew it up, my body not in full control,

as I felt malevolence, none could console.

My eyes keen, took their aim,

and I pulled the trigger, striking his frame.

Down he fell, in a silence and sorrow.

This divine deer, would not see tomorrow.

I then fell slowly, to my knees,

and sat there hopelessly, in the breeze.

My mind spiraled into a terrific confusion.

And there my life became full of delusion.

The sun would not shine on me ever more,

as I dug my own grave,

and my life was then tore.
