Being Me

I think it's important to write how YOU want to write. The poetry is yours and only you know how you want it to come across. I have read poetry from so called esteemed poets that I think are awful. I have read the winners of huge prizes (rattle springs to mind) where I think the "poem" is more an essay. Then you get the poems so full of metaphors that I have no idea in the world what they are about. Metaphors are good, don't get me wrong, in the rightvplace it's a valuable tool. But some people go overboard and when it's metaphor after metaphor after metaphor.... the poem is lost on me and if I don't understand it ... I don't like it. Some poets use punctuation, some don't. What I'm trying to say is ...you write fine. You write YOU!! I'm a fan, that's for sure x
