Poem -

But A Delicate Treasure

Silver glass surrounds my heart.

Shimmering between the surrounding blue veins,

The wall around my heart is quite a sight to look upon.

If only it wasn’t such a vital organ.

Shimmering between the surrounding blue veins:

My heart,

If only it wasn’t such a vital organ,

Is the object of admiring gazes.

My heart,

Through x-ray machines,

Is the object of admiring gazes.

They pay me in silver, more to coat my heart.

Through x-ray machines,

They see the value of something so pure.

(They pay me in silver, more to coat my heart)

If only they could cut me up.

They see the value of something so pure,

So beautiful,

If only they could cut me up

To preserve this treasure,

So beautiful,

In jars in museums.

If only they could cut me up,

So they could preserve it for all to see.

If only it wasn’t such a vital organ.

If only it wasn’t so breakable.
