Desperate Balance

Desperate Balance

Fluttering fins and flapping tail,
the wanderer saunters by.
Its golden tips having caught my eye,
its lazy gaze remains unphased.

Another stunning beauty unimpressed,
with this oddly dressed passer by.

For as long as memories have filled my mind,
I have lived a life on the darkened rim...
under muddled shadows of the show's bright lights.
Waiting for the starlets to pull me in.

But the spotlight eludes those who refuse to intrude,
and my meek, weak ways were from the start quite doomed
to fill my best days with a desperate balance...
a grand facade to stay on the stage.

And to mask the shame of my abnormal ways...
This desperate balance kept for years,
pressed on through the tears,
until that fateful day...

That everything tipped,
and everything caved,
and everything I knew...
forever changed.

The day you took me by the hand,
and asked me to stand
away from the light,
on my own two feet...

And to my delight...

the desperate balance tipped away,
the moment it fell for you.
