DIAMOND MEMORIES

There are rare, precious moments…memories
Like diamonds draped around my heart.
These moments can be appraised
By clarity, color, cut and weight of importance
In our lives…they are reflections of light
In my inner eye which bloom in each heartbeat.
The subtlety of the settings are found
In the shape of each reminiscence:
Love, passion, happiness, heartache…
Each so valuable to the essence of "us".

Love, in all its facets, is perfectly heart-shaped
While heartache is marred with nicks and scratches;
Dull with less brilliance but we got through it.
In the ovals are many facets of our love at first
Sight meeting and your thumb softly tracing
My lips before you kissed me at our wedding
In my mother's beautifully decorated backyard.
Now I know that simple gesture means
That the lover in you is hungry for me!
And, of course, the sound of our baby's
First vocal utterance, which was exceedingly
Angry at being pushed from her secure hiding
Place into the beginning of her future…you cried.

We have made a good place for us to share…
Here in the open air, midnight walks on the beach,
Enjoying family and friends and mourning
Those who left this earth earlier then expected.
There are more moments yet to be added
As we traverse this earthly landscape.
My favorite locale is in your arms
When the night is broken by the sun's light
Promising yet another day to live, laugh and love!
