Different Shades of Darkness

Different spaces are floating around in the absence.
An utter void in which all noise curls in between.
Once my eyes are closed, it’s all that’s unsaid, drifting there.
Some foul and deadlier, each tone has its edges.
And I say to you now. There are different shades of darkness.
When the screams have met the ring of silence, something is lingering there. Within folds are folds I pretend were merely hexes upon my eyes.
Some can be avoided, but others emerge painted in sunlight.
It is the reason I stagger, what the dirt clings on.
How could a star have a shadow amongst utter darkness?
Once my soul has fallen asleep, its shadow has the upper hand,
the different shades of darkness may hold me once more,
but this song is of old lovers longing for divorce.
The dance of dark that never met light.
The aftermath of dying might.
Slaughter may see the dark, but the beholder has a darker shade.
For evils answer to evil, and they answer to something more sinister.
There are different shades of darkness,
with clear eyes you too may see,
the subtle shades of those untamed,
rips and tears sewn with different shades of string.
You will find the cunning have leagues,
these shades of weeds only a gardener may see.
The betrayer provides the tip, but it is all the same to me. Only shades I see.
Different shades of you and I,
the same colour, but a different shade of darkness.
Negative spaces are slave to the light,
but this penumbra begs to be heard
and dates the crime scene, haven’t you heard?
To see the different shades of darkness
is to know different ways to fit in different spaces, alternate faces to wear on alternative occasions.Â
Vulnerability is being naive to the height of a shadow.Â
A shadow of a smile,
of a shadow passing by.
Knowing these different shades of darkness is art too dirty to be brought to light.
