Disavow

Disavow

I looked upon her face
reticent as I am
keeping my thoughts
of her stunning beauty
deep within.

Not allowed
I would disavow
the thoughts
as they sought
to begin.

In another setting
one's own professing
would be met with
complimentary delight.

But in this world
A mask unfurled
these thoughts
are met with fright.

So,
she will never know
the portrait I keep
deep inside
aloof and meek.

Yet,
her own task
more tragic
than my own
is to disavow
what she thinks
I think
I know.

To disavow is much more preferable to the one being disavowed than being disemboweled I would imagine, Robert.
While they both most probably hurt something awful, one we can always recover from while the other...well...not so much.
Of course, there are fewer things in Heaven or in Hell that rip your guts out worse than unrequited love.
Nicely penned, sir.
