Distraction

Distraction

You are a distraction, beauty sways me every way,
it should be managable, to be cherished, so they say;
however, something else comes along, a smile that's wrong,
someone said, 'sardonic,' an imperceptible wave so strong.

Suddenly I'm walking elsewhere, drawn away over there,
much to your consternation, someone else's long blonde hair;
enough, I'm back on track although suitably rebuked,
you were still at my shoulder, the last time I looked.

It's twofold, some would forget such a dichotomy,
I see you looking at abs and pecs, same it seems to me
as my prerogative, nothing is guaranteed, on a lead,
we compromise, all this abstraction, there is no need.

Older now, everything begins to fade, no longer hot,
we finally learned how to settle for what we've got.
