DO OR DIE!!

This sad and lonely illness
Is not one to shout about
Not like the dreaded cancer
Doesn’t carry the same clout
You can treat it if you want to
But can’t zap it with a drug
And what you see, ain’t what you get
Your mind’s that of a slug
You look hard in the mirror
But don’t see yourself in there
A false, distorted vision
But your mind it doesn’t care
That heinous, horrid person
With their head hung down in shame
Is the vision you now hate so much
The one you fill with blame
Blame for all the hurt
All the misery and the pain
Another day of anguish
Your heart it feels the strain
Your body gets a bashing
No loving do you give
Starve it of all that it needs
You lose the will to live
The person that you’re looking at
Devoid of deathly fear
It’s the living that does scare you
And you shed a lonely tear
The loneliness is killing you
Your family’s all around
But the barriers that hold them back
Are steadfast in the ground
Don’t want their arms to hold you
Or give a helping hand
You’re strong within your illness
“But you must leave it!” they demand
It’s your friend when you need comfort
It’s your strength when you are weak
It’s your power you hold on to
It’s your control that you do seek
The pain is overwhelming
In your head and in your heart
Your body will not carry on
This illness must depart
So how do you clamber out?
Of this great enormous hole
It’s all you’ve known for years on end
A servant to a role
But this role has now been overplayed
It’s dying a sad death
If you don’t leave this way of life
You’ll soon take your last breath
Your family they do beg you
You’re vanishing before their eyes
They are angry with you now
Watching their child’s slow demise
But despite how much you love them
It is something you must do
Not for everyone around you
But the memory that was you
You’ve forgotten who you were
Want that person back for good
To see her in the mirror
Looking how this woman should
The first step has been taken
Cos in your mind you want to leave
The beautiful body you once had
A vision you now bereave
You look hard in the mirror
See those bones now staring back
The face of such great torture
All the flesh that you so lack
Tears stream down a face
That you no longer recognise
You see what all the others see
Your head was filled with lies
But the love for all you are
And the strength that you will give
Is right there staring back at you
Willing you to live .....
