Such Innocence

Such Innocence

A child's innocence is to be reconciled
Rather than reviled and defiled,
For what is to come of wishing
A child into this hate?
We all know we wished to come late
Into a world so full of hostility
And ambiguity.

So beautiful, to see so incorruptible a child.
To know not humanity's anger and hate
Is a blessing, not a curse.
Why do we condemn them to this fate?

Parents, do not wish away innocence
Do not deny a child the blissfullness
Of not knowing this world we have created
All for them to drown in its hate
To forever die inside, for their fate
Shall be to continue carrying our freight
The load of lies we use to burden ourselves.
Parents, do not wish away their innocence.
