Early rains

Early rains

Smell of coming rain enlivens me,
Spring’s gentle entry
After a mild midwestern winter.
Air humid, grey skies, time of Thunder Beings.
Spring is not always gentle,
Thunder rumbling and lightning flashing,
Sometimes tornados with their furious winds,
Leaving rubble for memory.

I long for the cleansing rains,
Collaboration of thunder and lightning
Across the sky,
Daylight gone as the thunderheads take over.
A natural phenomenon, reminding me of Nature’s power.
Pre-storm static energy, picking up bits of my hair
To float around my head.
Electricity charging the air.

In the smell there is hope, memory, promise, letting go.
So comforting, energizing and soothing at once.
I breathe it deeply,
Reveling in the joy.
Maybe another snow yet,
It is March after all.
Or is spring early this year?
Could winter really be over?

Unfortunately where I live it has been late spring weather for two weeks and now in the last couple of days the temperature has dropped and a snow storm approaches, won't be much accumalation but March is sure going out like a lion. Enjoyed this stormy read.
