Easier said than done

When we came apart
Both of us had a heavy heart
We vowed to remain friends
Civil and respectful to each others ends 
- and always there for the children  ...

But as time stretched over future days
So the ties between us frayed
Tensions crept in
as we perceived which of us was
beginning to 'win' 
- and we both had weapons in the children ...
