East of Eden

East of Eden,
Where the sun rises and falls
Over sin

Neighbors to perfection
Overlooking hills of darkness,
Rising up to threaten and destroy

Eden is dead, vanished,
Carried away with the wind,
Littering fragments of despair in its wake

It is a figment, a ghost,
Laid out for the weary,
An oasis for the desperate,
A crutch for the those with faith

It is a lie shrouded in truth,
A story for the innocent

But gone like the petals of a dandelion,
As if it never existed
