Emerald Eyes

The pair of glowing, emerald eyes
Within the forest gleamed.
Shimmering, polished gems that shone
Within the forest seemed
So brilliant, bright, like burning fire,
So alluring, enthralling, like gems
Rays of the moon danced upon
A brook beside its den
That glided through the blackened woods,
But the emeralds remained.
Still glowing, poised as if floating,
The lustrous eyes sustained
A wary fawn that came along.
Now, the eyes alert,
Narrowed on the night and fawn.
The eyes began to lurk.
With speed beyond the speed of man,
The eyes of emeralds leaped.
And faster than the fawn could flee,
The claws of razor reaped.
