Poem -

ENDINGS

The noise seemed louder
In its quietness
And the trees seemed taller
In their withering
And the town and city ruins
Ethereal and lovely
In solitude at last
For inevitably
And finally
It had all come to pass

We had reached our ending
And we did not last
Snuffed out like a candle
In one final blast
Not one soul left
Not chick, child or man
Not one blade of grass
Just scorched earth
And sand

So nobody witnessed
The beauty of the sky
In dying colours
Startling
Up high
Or heard our planet sing
With its last dying breath
Tranquil, serene
In all its hushed peace
Now free of its pest.
