Endless Miles and Passing Time
Written for my Father

Thoughts of you are never far from my mind
I keep them in a place that only I know how to find
I keep them with the photos and the cards, from all the times we didn't share
Along with all the memories from all the years that we were never there.
I keep them polished to make sure they never tarnish or lose their shine
From the endless miles and passing time.
I wish I could turn back the hands of time, if I were able to find a way...
I would want to spend that time with you,
Doing some of the things that we said we would do one day.
I'd want to talk about the important things, and the little things that we
never have a chance to say. I'd tell you how much I love you, and miss you
and how proud I am of you; and that I think of you every single day.
I wish I could build a bridge, that would close the gap to the endless miles between us
Then maybe we could meet half way.
Maybe we could have another chance to appreciate the gift of time.
A second chance, to not let the years leave us so far behind.
But...
The endless miles never seem to lose their way, and the passing time
just keeps on passing, never missing even a single day. And I cannot turn back time,
or build a bridge for us to meet half way. There are no second chances; and time lost
is always lost, and that is where it always stays.
But I hold onto hope that we still have time and we can still find a way.
I keep this hope polished to make sure it doesn't tarnish or lose its shine
From the endless miles and passing time.
