Enola Gay

Enola Gay

Enola Gay,
Why did you have to fly that day.
Your pilots mother's name on fuselage display.
Carrying hell unleashed from your bomb-bay.

Plummeting down like a cruel bird of prey.
Following military orders you had to obey.
A whole city and its people now blown away.
When the smoke cleared all bleak and gray.

Hardly a soul left standing to cry or pray.
So much suffering for survivors to survey.
To save lives and shorten the war historians say.
The old adage of War is Hell will never go away.

Amazing write. I'm so glad I follow your work, otherwise I'd definitely miss all this, just such a joy to read.

Thanks Max for being so generous and for following.
It's sad and tragic I had to write it, truth and history be told.
Thanks again and I wish you well.

Yes, this is a very strong poem and yet, my mother in law survived a Japanese concentration camp in WW II by the sacrifice all those lives were made to make. Weirdly, my wife 's birthday is August 6th. I wish woth all my heart there never was a WW II, but then again, I would never have had my wife. Still, no nukes needed in this world. Good write, this conundrum to me...

Thank you sir and if I may call you John, thank you John for your kind and generous comment.
And for your heartfelt story with you stoic mother in law.
Clearly a woman of substance, so determined and strong willed to survive
such dreadful incarceration by enemy hands.
There is good and bad in life and your meeting your wife is a good thing that can arise from its opposite.
Take care and thanks again and I wish you well and all the loved ones around you.

Hi, Shaun, sorry, I seem to have missed the notification of your reply (but then again, life/work have been quite complicated - life has settled again, but work will continue to be complicated till the end of the week for a bookkeeper/accountant when all the clients need to the declare their VAT over Q4 2020 and we are two down at the office due to Covid 19, but, we will manage). My wife said to say thank you for your reply and the things you said about her mum... She was a woman of substance indeed. You take care too...
