Poem -

to Eve...

to Eve...

by: Darlyn C. Lojero

yes
and i am not sorry that i am.
i have taken sugar in exchanged of bread
and walk home with nothing
when they slipped through my fingers.

the rain had washed off all the sweetness
but i was left with sticky palms and empty stomach.
Thinking of Adam,
i balled my hands into fists,
protecting what has left
of what i could secretly lick in the dark.

what could be quench by these dry open-mouthed kisses
i am planting on my own two palms,
which claimed to have not known a man?
i should have taken the bread.

Sister, why stare at me that way?
did you tell the world I showed him the apple?
but there was no apple--there were only us.
Did he say, I asked him to eat it?
Sister, there was none!

Look at me, sister.

I tried not to.
I fought it.
You knew,
for before you are a part of him,

i am you.

It wasn't a garden, it was an office.
It was a cup of coffee.
I fell in love and I am not sorry.
