Eves Pudding

Eves Pudding
please Nurse can you tell me,
what time the bus comes..?
"on the hour,
every hour"
will it be soon ?
" we will be having Tea"
What at three?
" no, it's nearly time for Tea"
oh I thought it was June
" how are you Emily ?"
it's not me it's my mum
she's altogether poorly
and I so so want to see
her....
" but it's nearly time for Tea?"
I Β had it on Thursday
afternoon..it's mum I want to see
" how old are you Emily"
I'm twenty two..
" oh bless you, let's go down
to the dining room for tea"
I don't want to miss the bus !
" it will come, when it's ready..
while we're waiting we can
drink tea
and have sticky toffee"
Β but I really want to go...
"yes, ...I know"

So true, I worked at an Alzheimer'sΒ unit for many years. I miss it dearly
observing ...you already know, the value of patience,,
A little snapshot into the life of a carer, an important poem as it makes the reader think of their own mortality and respect the people they may one day need.
