Existential Snooze Button

Existential Snooze Button

Jesus, Lord of Joy,
Today I declined your invitation

You held out your hand
And offered to dance

It wasn't a test
(you sharing your zest)
Yet still I squandered the chance

Perhaps I am tepid
and live in acquiescence;
not so compelled to thrive in your presence

Shadows of dark emotion
weigh upon my heals
like sandbags

I'm slow to embrace the gospel of peace
My holy garments turn to rags

You carried on with your affairs
Why should you wait for me

Nonetheless, I chase your train
Oh one who came to set me free

And I cry and plead
as one heavy burdened
for you to give me rest

Aware that this is not my first fruits
but my second best

I hope you hear me behind your back
Be gentle and forgive
I really didn't mean to be slack
And surely want to live

Per chance the Holy Spirit
might make my running swift
And translate me to catch up with you:

God's choicest worthy gift!

There is much love and admiration for God in this poem. It's well written and I could clearly see what was happening.

Favorite part:

Thanks for posting another good poem.
