Family Portrait

It's sometimes hard to remember,
the moments that really matter.
As we try so hard to achieve perfection,
are we leading in the right direction?
Photographs are written memories,
which we all use as a sort of remedy.
Seeing that flash is like opening a gate,
but what is really in a family portrait?
I cherish the ones where I'm in control,
an unsteady picture of my mums feet on a stroll.
Headshot of my brothers brown curly hair,
not with a pretty but a fed up stare.
Dancing on my daddy's feet,
looking up to his smiles that I meet.
Falling over in a field with my pup,
holding a burger smeared with tomato ketchup.
For we don't remember perfect days,
a camera in a hand fulfils in many ways.
Redefine family portrait for a start,
then let the real moments burn in our hearts.

Thanks Susan :)
Wonderful poem Emma and for a lovely reason for it to be written.I too have been spending a little away time, reintroducing myself to family i haven't seen in a while and getting reacquainted to the ones that had once estranged themselves for no apparent reasons accept to be nomads.....
Take Care and have a Very Merry X-mas,
